Volunteer & Teach

We’re in need of both short and long term volunteers to help run our chess workshops and events. As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to advance your own chess skills while getting to know the Bocas community through our outreach events.

Qualifications

We’re looking for a FIDE certified instructor or titled player that’s able to speak Spanish at a conversational (A2) level.

Responsibilities

As an online instructor you will work with us to develop appropriate curriculum for students between 1000 and 1600 ELO. Each class will have up to 8 students.

Qualifications

Volunteers must be at least 18 with A2 level Spanish speaking abilities. Volunteers don’t need to be experienced chess players, however they should be interested in mastering basic chess principles and improving their game. We’re especially interested in volunteers who have experience working with young people.

Perks

Depending on availability, we may be able to offer free or discounted accommodation for the duration of your stay! We will provide a bike for volunteers to travel around Isla Colon during their stay. Bocas is a world renowned tourist destination with beautiful beaches, reefs, and surf breaks. Volunteers are more than welcome to explore the tourist scene and night life during their free time. Not the mention, volunteering with us is a great opportunity to get to know the Bocas community.

Workaway

Our lead instructor, Joel Sanz, has hosted several workawayers to assist with this project since 2020. You can read about their experiences in Bocas on the workaway website.
