Play & Learn

Bocas Chess is an official Panamanian chess club registered with the Panamanian Federation of Chess. We accept students from Bocas Del Toro, Panama with any level of chess abilities. Students who are committed to playing seriously and have demonstrated talent will have the opportunity to travel and play at national level tournaments. Additionally, we do our best to secure financial aid for traveling to tournaments for students who are in need of support.

We accept students that meet the following requirements:

  • Age: 8 – 18
  • Chess background: Any
  • Language Abilities: Fluent in Spanish

We offer three types of classes: public group lessons, online semi private lessons, and private lessons.

Public Group Classes

Cost: Free

Chess Background: Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced

Location & Time:

  • Weekly every Wednesday from 5pm – 7pm at Colegio Rogelio Josue Ibarra
  • Weekly every Friday from 4:30pm – 8pm at Multicultural School – Bocas Chess headquarters

Our public group lessons are a great way to get introduced to basic chess principles and build a solid foundation for becoming an advanced chess player. At each session, students participate in a lesson followed by structured playing time for them to practice the principles they were just taught.

Online Group Classes

  • Weekly online every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 7:30pm – 9pm

We invite students that have mastered basic chess principles and are interested in playing competitively at official tournaments to participate in our online group classes.

Depending on the availability of our instructors and the student’s age and playing abilities, we offer private one on one lessons. Lessons may be in person or online.
